Another week??

Wow, time really does fly!

Today's positive thoughts:

~we didn't get all the snow other areas of the country got. I'm praying we're done for the season. It's much easier to be optimistic about spring and life in general when no snow is falling!

~Jasmine's starting to enjoy her reading lessons. That's HUGE to me!

~It's Friday! How can I help but be positive when that's the case?!

~My kids love me and my husband thinks I'm funny :)

lovely outing

Wow. I've completely forgotten my positive thoughts for the week.
But instead of getting down on myself, which wouldn't be very positive, I'll just do some now!

...and then some pictures from today :)

~we tried a new Italian place for dinner tonight, thanks to restaurant.com. It was delicious. We celebrated Josh's dad's birthday, and the kids were perfect. Absolutely perfect. We were there 2 hours, and they couldn't have been better. So proud.

~Josh and I are getting much better on Beatles Rock Band. We really enjoy it! He's almost always on drums and I prefer bass (I can hear the bass lines far easier than most guitar lines, unless it's a very guitar-y song like "Dear Prudence") and the girls like to bounce around between the other guitar and the mic, and begging Josh for a turn on the drums.

~there are buds on my lilac bush! I know it will be almost 2 months before it blooms (at which time we'll see this:
again. Which reminds me. Now that it's not snowing all the time, I need to start putting the flag out again. I love it!

~Jasmine and Josh are playing tennis together on Wii Sports. They're really cute and she's getting good at it, so it's actually fun for both of them. Of course, now they've moved on to boxing and she knocked him out quickly, which surprised everyone (except her; she has no shortage of confidence!)

~it feels like spring. It was still on the cool side today, but the sun is out, there are little green shoots in our garden, and I have the urge to clean!

Today we went to a park that doesn't have a playground, but is absolutely gorgeous. We can't let the kids just run, because there's water everywhere...so we didn't stay terribly long. But I got some fun pictures (not all child-centered, either! I'm trying to get some for the photo challenge):

(remember him? He's the kid rarely showing up in photos these days, since he just won't stand still long enough for me to get the camera in focus. And that's with an SLR with no lag!! )

Bekah liked the little pebbles by this pond. She thought they were more fun than the mallard swimming around.

Jasmine, ever ready for a perfect pose.

Isn't this beautiful? This was as slow as my camera could go in the bright sunlight....someday I'd love to go back when it's darker out so it could be slower and get more of an "ethereal" look, but it's still fun.

One of the themes for the contest is "broken" and I loved the look of this bench. It's so almost inviting, but I wouldn't recommend actually sitting on it!

We're not sure why, but this was actually in the pond. I don't remember it being under water when we were there last (almost 2 years ago) but it doesn't look like it's easy to move, so I don't know the story here.

Positive Thinking? You sure?

I hate Daylight Saving Time. I think it's one of the dumber ideas out there. The days get longer whether you change the silly clocks or not. Let's not mess with everyone's internal clocks twice a year, shall we?
Between that, and the fact that Hudson decided he wanted to nurse-let go-fuss-nurse for between 30 and 60 straight minutes in the middle of the night, I'm tired. The gray skies aren't exactly lightening my mood.
So an attempt to be cheerful and find the positive is much more of a stretch today. My friend wrote "This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it." and I realized that, even when life just feels wayyyy too hard, it's still a day God created, and He loves it when we find the positive things in the day and thank Him for it.

So today I'm going to try to focus on:
~the snow is basically gone. That's a wonderful treat for mid-March!
~Hudson is 11 months old today! He's growing up so fast.
~My girls are being really cute, playing Wii Sports together. They're playing well together, not arguing but are being helpful instead.
~Bedtime is 4 short hours away.
~Jasmine suggested eggs and (English) muffins for lunch today. I decided that sounded reasonable, making her so happy and appreciative!

here are a couple pictures from last weekend:

What the snowmen looked like after we'd had some sun for a few days

attempting the impossible (being positive today)

This picture is from yesterday, believe it or not ;) See all that ice in the bottom corner? Yeah. There's a reason they don't charge the normal $8 to park at Goat Island this time of year. We were only allowed to walk on one small area; the rest of the island is blocked off. Which makes sense, because the mist from the Falls just constantly freezes.

That's what I'm thankful for. That we saw the Falls in "winter," but that we didn't have to pay for it or stay out very long. And that it's Friday.

I'm in a rather grumpy mood, so that's as positive as I'm getting. Bekah just brought me a pile of at least 6 books to read her...

Positively positive

~I got to sleep in 1/2 hour this morning! Hudson, Jasmine and Bekah all woke up at the same time (6:30) but Josh got up with them and let me sleep! Lovely.
~At the rate we're going, we'll have the most accurate family tree out there. We're taking all sorts of random pieces of information that make no sense (like Josh's great-grandmother's parents both having the name "Lue"??) and figuring out the truth. Or what we hope is the truth, but most definitely fits.
~It's Thursday! Unfortunately it really feels like Friday, but at least I know we're getting close.

half a day off schedule

(or really a day and a half)

~Yesterday we figured out some huge questions in Josh's family tree. It was so much fun to find out that he has at least one Civil War veteran whose great-great-grandfather fought in the Revolution.
~It's 55 degrees out, and the snow is almost gone! It should be pretty much completely cleared out by the weekend at this rate :)
~Jasmine's taking a nap today! Her naps are rare these days. She's growing up so fast!
~she did her reading lesson herself this morning! (that wasn't my plan; I just asked her to wait so it didn't keep Hudson from his nap) Bekah went over and said, "now look at the picture and I'll ask you some questions about it." Too cute!

More positive thinks

~yesterday we planned to spend an hour looking at genealogy after the kids went to bed, but then we stumbled on an amazing discovery. Josh's ancestor is one of those responsible for the charter for New London, CT! He was a busy guy (usually suing people, according to the records we looked at!) and apparently very important. And his will includes his family line from 1100 to 1600, so we have a document that lets us get that line back another 500 years!! (John Plumbe is his name)
~the sun is feeling more and more springy. It's melting the snow and giving me hope. And a headache, but hopefully I'll start noticing an improvement soon, since we saw the homeopath this morning and that always helps quickly.
~Jasmine read the story in her lesson today without me! I think she's realizing how much fun reading can be. Bekah's at the point where it's hard work and she forgets the beginning of the story by the time she gets to the end, but she'll get past that soon, too.
~We got pictures of headstones of some of Josh's family this morning, which is filling in some blanks we had on the family tree. We'll have to go back when the snow is gone so we can see more, but it's a good start!

Continuing to be positive

Yesterday was so much fun! Josh and I spent a TON of time (much to the kids' chagrin) doing genealogy on his family. We're having a blast!
So yesterday's positives:
~Josh feels more connected, both to his family and to this country. Knowing how intertwined his history is with American history is an exciting, awesome experience.
~Call-ahead seating at Outback is a great setup. We "only" waited 30 minutes for our table instead of 75-85 minutes because we called on our way there. And the food was AWESOME.
~Hudson was happy the entire time we were on our date (Josh's parents watched all three kids). He cried for about 10 seconds before we walked in the house!
~We had sunshine! What a wonderful treat!

So far for today:
~We're following another new line in the family (Josh's mom's father's mother's side ;) )
~Wegmans Ultimate Chocolate Cake. Yummmmmm.
~more sunshine!! Hoping to get outside for some pictures...

Positivity: day 5

It's funny that I take the time to tag these, since they'll all be together...

anyways...

it's sunny out again today. Definitely helps my overall outlook, even if it didn't inspire me to want to wash dishes.
So far today:
~I'm thankful for 6 1/2 years of marriage to my Prince Charming. Funny to think that 6 1/2 years ago I was counting down the minutes, and now the hours and days fly...life has changed in so many ways, all for the better. I love you, Josh!
~I've got heavenly rolls rising for supper tonight. I'm not sure what's going with them, but who cares?? There will be rolls!
~Flavored coffee. Mmmmmmmm.
~Our refund came! And it was for more than we thought, since we'd forgotten to add something that they got a form for. Nice blessing!!
~I have really cute kids. They may not always listen right away, but they're great kids and I'm so thankful that I get every day with them. They're healthy, they're smart, and they make great photoshoot subjects!

Positivity: day 4

I didn't get this written last night. I was too busy watching Pam have her baby. Can I just say how much fun that was?? Just perfect.

So here's yesterday's list:

~we had beautiful sunshine! sunshine makes (almost) everything better! And thankfully the sun doesn't give me migraines anymore. (thank you LORD!)
~Jasmine's reading is progressing by leaps and bounds. She's starting to read words "the fast way" the first time through her story, which means it's much easier to understand the story she's reading.
~I had a LOT of fun in Photoshop yesterday. I came up with this picture from one I took last November for the weekly photo contest I'm in:

Positivity: day 3

~I've kept up with this for three days in a row!! I'm hoping I don't fizzle out!
~I figured out an incredible variation of these, with garlic powder in the butter and smothered in mozzarella. Who needs Jack Astor's???
~Hudson didn't draw blood when he bit my shoulder ;)
~the girls figured out how to set up Beatles Rockband so they can both play drums and see their own notes on the TV. I think it's the Tug-of-War version, though I'm not sure.
~Josh is home. That makes now perfect, and makes my being online pretty silly, so that's all for today!

Finding the positive: day 2

This will be brief because it's tired and I'm late.

Oops. That doesn't look right, but it's too funny to change it to the boring way.

Today:
~I got to go grocery shopping by myself! I love going with my family, but it's kind of fun to get out for an hour by myself once in awhile, even if it's just to buy groceries
~I used coupons! Okay, so only about 6, but I feel really good about that! And three of them were for items less than $1, so they were doubled!! Go me!!
~I very nearly almost kept up with the laundry. All that's left is folding the last load and bringing baskets to their appropriate rooms. So that needs to happen tomorrow. But close!
~I had a Plumeria candle burning all day. It was lovely, and the house smells like Hawaii!

March: Finding the Positive

My friend Chloe decided to spend the month of March finding the positive in things. I tend to do this anyways, but there are days when I just can't see the good in the day, so I've decided to join her!

So here goes! Today I'm thankful...
~for DiBella's, and for Josh's willingness to bring home subs when I beg
~Hudson entertains himself (when I'm in the room) long enough that I was able to put the CDs back on their tower (moved them from the former Black Hole to our closet)
~We had a great time playing Beatles Rockband as a family, with very few arguments and lots of fun music
~I wasn't tired, in spite of having a hard time falling asleep last night.

More tomorrow, I hope!

Snowmans

Josh took the girls outside yesterday to make snowmen. It's so rare that we have warm enough weather for the snow to stick like this, so they made the most of it! There is a Jasmine snowman and a Bekah snowman. Jasmine wanted Josh to make a Daddy snowman, but he was cold and wet, so they stopped at two.

And here's Hudson, playing peek-a-boo with the curtains:
