Hair

Bekah likes to cut.
When she finishes cutting her current project, though, she lets her scissors do the thinking.
Scissors aren't very smart.
I call it the "Ruby Sue."

So today we got it fixed.

(this should also make it easier on me to remember that she doesn't like me playing with it. The girl's love language is most definitely not "touch.")

Nicknames

While I was away for the weekend, painting mom and dad's house to get it ready to go on the market, Josh had some fun conversations with the kids.
One of them was about nicknames.
But first, a back story.

When Jasmine was a baby, we called her Kewpie Doll. She still occasionally hears it. Hudson has started using it some of the time.
No Jazzy, or Jazz, though. The midwife tried "Jazzy Claire" the day she was born. Thankfully it didn't stick. It's kind of cute but I'm not a fan.

Of the name, I mean. I love jazz music.

Bekah got called Boo from about the time she could crawl. It went from Bekah-Boo to just Boo. But she's started requesting that we not call her Boo.
At least I thought she'd just started. Then I found this:
whoops.

Hudson has been Buddy almost since the day he was born. He occasionally calls himself Buddy.

So now back to our story.

Bekah said she wanted a nickname. Apparently "Bekah" isn't a nickname in her book. (oh, and "Rebekah" isn't allowed in her book. or Bekah Jenny. Just Bekah.)
So Jasmine suggested a couple things, like Bekah Jenny or Boo, all of which were quickly shot down. She said, "give me a minute. I want to think of one."
There was silence at the table.
Suddenly, Hudson suggested one: "Buddy?"

You can't argue with a boy willing to share his nickname with his sister!!

"When it's spring"...

Jasmine keeps starting sentences with "when it's spring..."
I guess that tells you what it's like weather-wise around here. Actually, today we got up to 80. It was awesome!

Then last night, she said "we get a whole week of summer!"

*teehee*

Jasmine is so much like me, sometimes it's frightening. She decided that, since she is now 6, she can ride her bike. Without training wheels. So yesterday Josh took off the training wheels (and put them on Bekah's bike).

and now...
(side note: I've finally found a way to take a picture in the front yard that doesn't make you see how hideous the house across the street looks!)

and Bekah:

Hudson had to get in on the action, too. He was very sweet and let his Baby take a ride:

Counting from both ends

Jasmine's big project for today is to write the numbers from 1 to 100.

Well, that's one way to do it!

Why did no one warn me??

How come no one warned me:

just how fast time would fly?
(actually, that's not true. I've heard it more times than I can count)

Happy sixth birthday, Kewpie!

Photo Encouragement

Remember how I set for 2011 the goal of improving my photography?

Whoa. I had no idea what a ride I was in for!!

A couple weeks ago, I got a message from a friend from college, asking if I'd be interested in taking pictures of a mutual friend's bridal shower. Whoa!! I said yes...and did that on Saturday.

I had shown some of the girls' ballet pictures to their teacher, who asked me if I'd like to take pictures of all the kids in her class and the other classes of young kids. I'm super-excited about that! It starts this coming week!

And one of my challenges I've been a part of this year...
Every week they choose 10 pictures from the hundreds submitted to highlight on their blog.
Guess who they chose this week?!?!?

Just to catch up a little, here's my picture for this current week, "first thing in the morning." It's such a perfect picture of our mornings!
