My Mom always called it "Tonic". When I was a teen in FL, we called it "Coke" no matter what type of soda we were talking about. Now I just call it soda.
it's coke.pop is the sound a cork makes and soda is what you put in your baked goods (baking soda). everyone knows that. lol!
